Custom sonar ASIC

PW0268

An integrated circuit designed as the core of a custom ultrasonic ranging module, reducing external circuitry and development effort.

Integrated ultrasonic ranging functions

The PW0268 combines functions commonly needed in a pulse-echo sonar signal chain. The integrated approach can simplify module development, reduce component count, and provide a defined starting architecture for ultrasonic ranging.

Functional capabilities

  • Internal voltage regulation
  • Temperature-compensation support
  • Ultrasonic transmit circuitry
  • Two stages of pre-amplification
  • Time-controlled variable-gain amplification
  • High- and low-band-pass filtering
  • Detection and signal processing

Design considerations

Oscillator components, transducer selection, matching network, supply conditions, board layout, noise control, gain timing, thresholds, and mechanical/acoustic design all affect system performance. Request the current IC datasheet and reference information before beginning a production design.

Classification: The PW0268 is a sonar-ranging integrated circuit used with external ultrasonic transducers and supporting components; it is not a complete sensor system by itself.
